Toner Phoners are telemarketers who misrepresent themselves as an authorized Xerox representative or as someone customers have a contract with and try to gain agreement to send you supplies.  Most of the time, these supplies are already included in your contract (such as toner).  They may have information about your current copiers or printers.   Some of this information is made public by UCC filings.   Unfortunately, this scam has been going on for some time and according to the Federal Trade Commission, this fraud costs customers $200 million per year.
Be Diligent
If you receive a call from someone you do not recognize asking you to accept supplies for your Xerox equipment, please ask for their name, hang up and call Southern Solutions for assistance.   Many times, the Toner Phoner will claim Xerox is running low on a particular supply item and they need to send it to you.   Neither Xerox nor Southern Solutions ever places these types of calls to our customers.
Should you fall victim to supplies telemarketing fraud, please report it to the Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission.
