On October 22nd, several JustTech team members attended the City of Huntington’s 100 Year Time Capsule Closing outside the Mountain Health Arena. The City of Huntington is a client of JustTech’s and we wanted to show our support for a valued client and our city. Also in attendance were other clients of JustTech, including the United Way of the River Cities, the Huntington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and others.
The time capsule was closed on Collis P. Huntington’s 200th birthday. It showcases Huntington’s social, cultural, economic and political facets from each generation of Huntington’s residents and anyone with a tie to the city’s collective narrative. The time capsule will be housed within City Hall and will be opened in 100 years in 2121.
The City of Huntington’s 150th Anniversary in 2021 is highlighting Huntington’s past, present and future. This year-long campaign has focused on positive stories within their city’s neighborhoods and beyond through various events, collaborations, initiatives and more. Their vision is to showcase that Huntington is “always home,” no matter where you find yourself.
Local and state business leaders and public officials attended the event including: Steve Williams (Mayor of Huntington), Joe Machin (U.S. Senator for West Virginia) and Shellie Moore-Capito (U.S. Senator for West Virginia).
Huntington is located in western West Virginia. It is the county seat of Cabell County and also stretches into Wayne County.
It is both a vibrant, energetic city and a place where heritage comes alive. Sitting on the Ohio River at the point where West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky meet, Huntington is part of the largest inland port in the United States.
In its early days, the city was a thriving port with steam river boats churning by daily. Steam boats shipped lumber and coal to fuel the growth of the railroad extension to the west. This growth was made possible by the city’s namesake and founder, Collis P. Huntington, an infamous railroad magnate.
