Supporting More Than 600 Young Athletes in Monongalia County

The Morgantown Pony Baseball League (MPBL) is an award-winning youth baseball program serving more than 600 children throughout Monongalia County. Open to players ages 3–16, the league is dedicated to providing a safe, fundamentally sound, competitive and challenging baseball experience.

MPBL provides age-appropriate instruction that allows players to develop their skills as they progress through the program. The league’s divisions include:

  • Shetland (ages 4–6): Tee-based play focused on developing proper baseball fundamentals
  • Pinto (ages 7–8): Coach-pitch baseball that continues building fundamental skills
  • Mustang (ages 9–10)
  • Bronco (ages 11–12)
  • Pony (ages 13–14)
  • Colt (ages 15–16)

Beginning at age 9, players compete using MLB-style rules, including leading off, pickoffs, balks, dropped third strikes and the infield fly rule. This approach helps young athletes continue developing their knowledge of the game while preparing them for increasingly competitive levels of baseball.
