On April 4th, JustTech proudly sponsored the 18th Annual Rockbridge Bull & Oyster Fest hosted by Rockbridge Area Health Center at the Virginia Horse Center. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the event brought the community together for an unforgettable evening of BBQ, oysters, live music, games, and connection—all in support of a vital mission.

Supporting a Mission That Matters

All proceeds from the event directly benefited the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC), whose mission is to provide comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable healthcare to underserved populations across the region.

RAHC’s story is rooted in community action. In 1992, local volunteers came together to create what began as the Rockbridge Area Free Clinic. Over time, as the need for care grew, so did the organization. Today, RAHC operates as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), offering expanded services including:

  • Primary medical care
  • Dental services
  • Behavioral health support

These services are available to insured, uninsured, and underinsured patients, ensuring access to care regardless of financial circumstances.

Addressing Critical Healthcare Needs in Rockbridge

A 2012 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) revealed significant challenges in the region, including:

  • Buena Vista, Lexington, and Rockbridge County designated as Medically Underserved Areas
  • Classification as Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Areas
  • Approximately 38% of residents identified as low-income (≤200% of the Federal Poverty Level)

In response, the transition to a Federally Qualified Health Center enabled RAHC to scale its services and better meet the evolving needs of the community. Today, with locations in Lexington and Buena Vista, RAHC continues to play a critical role in improving health outcomes across the region.
