The United States Environmental Protection Agency states the term circular economy “refers to an economy that uses a systems-focused approach and involves industrial processes and economic activities that are restorative or regenerative by design, enable resources used in such processes and activities to maintain their highest value for as long as possible, and aim for the elimination of waste through the superior design of materials, products, and systems (including business models). It is a change to the model in which resources are mined, made into products, and then become waste. A circular economy reduces material use, redesigns materials to be less resource intensive, and recaptures “waste” as a resource to manufacture new materials and products.”
Wikipedia defines circular economy as “a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible”.
Often times when selling new Xerox copiers & printers to clients, models that are 3-5 years old are returned to JustTech. Instead of dumping these units in a landfill, JustTech remanufactures them to the highest standards and resells them to clients. This equipment still has 5-7 years of useable life left in them. There is also a big financial benefit to clients. In some cases, new equipment is a better fit for clients and in some cases, remanufactured equipment, depending on their needs.
A JustTech Technical Analyst performs the following before a remanufactured copier has the opportunity to be sold to a new client.
- Outer shell of the main frame wiped down and cleaned to help remove any marks/blemishes
- Updated software to reduce untimely downtime and load the latest security updates
- Updated supplies
- Replacement of any faulty parts/components
