Next up is Janay Haggins who supports our team members at JustTech with all things HR related!
Joshua Justice:
Hello, everyone. We’re back again with our employee spotlight series, our second employee spotlight of 2025. Today, we have Janay with us. We’re so excited for you to get to know Janay a little bit better. So let’s go ahead, Janay. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
Janay Haggins:
Well, I was born in Washington DC, And then around when I was about three years old, I, I moved to Maryland. Then I graduated from Morgan State University, in February 2009, with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources. And, you know, I I have a husband and three children and my grandmother living with us. Yeah.
Joshua Justice:
And, you know, something about you, you and I have in common is that we’re both big Marvel fans. Yes. And And you named your dog after a famous Marvel character.
Janay Haggins:
T’Challa! He’s a black lab and retriever mix.
Joshua Justice:
The Black Panther. I love it. That’s awesome. Did you see the new Fantastic Four trailer that came out this morning?
Janay Haggins:
Fantastic Four? No. I saw the new, was it Captain America? Yep.
Joshua Justice:
Yep. After this interview, you’re gonna have to check out the Fantastic Four trailer. So tell us about your position at Just Tech.
Janay Haggins:
Well, I’m a Human Resource Coordinator, and what I do is I do payroll. I do onboarding, offboarding. I manage, PTO calendars and a lot of other things. So making sure client I mean, making sure employees get paid on time.
Joshua Justice:
I’m sure there’s no pressure. Right. I’m sure everyone appreciates that, our employees always get paid on time. Thank you for that. And, what brought you to Justech?
Janay Haggins:
Well, what brought me to JustTech is that I was looking for a company that I can grow and, learn, a lot more, my abilities and skills. And, I love that also, it was a small company. I love working with small companies, and it gives me the opportunity to, you know, just like I said before, enhance a lot of my abilities that I’ve been doing for many, many years.
Joshua Justice:
That’s great. You know, I still feel like this is a small company even though we’ve grown from, you know, two employees to to close to 60. But it’s still the size we are Seems like we’re just a large family, you know, that we can know everyone really well. And I really like that about the company as well. What do you like most about Just Tech?
Janay Haggins:
What I like most about Just Tech, which is what you’ve already said, it’s a small knit family. We love each other, not just like. We we like we love we love each other, and I just love the camaraderie. I love the the small knit family that we that we have.
Joshua Justice:
Absolutely. Yeah. So in addition to payroll, what are your normal responsibilities here? What’s a day to day look like?
Janay Haggins:
Oh, let’s see. So I come in in I come in and then log in. Sometimes I come in. I’ll check my emails. As of right now, we’re hiring. So I am going through candidates, interviewing, phone screening. If we find someone that we like, you know, we’ll send them an offer letter, and then I’ll onboard them, let them sign up for their health insurance, stuff like that. I also do, end of year or beginning of year stuff. So, like, affirmative action, EEO, that stuff has to be submitted. Now it’s W2s coming in for taxes, so I make sure all of the employees have that. So, this time of year is very, very busy. Between the end of the year and the beginning of these, very busy.
Joshua Justice:
If you were speaking to a, prospective candidate of JustTech who was thinking about working with us, what would you tell them?
Janay Haggins:
I would tell them that, just be open, honest, work very hard, and then just communicate. My my biggest thing is communication. That’s my biggest thing, communication. And I would tell them have a good time. You know, work is not always just work, work, work. I mean, you have to have a balance. Right. And love what you do.
Joshua Justice:
Absolutely. I, I agree completely. When you’re not an all star at Just Tech, what do you like to do for fun besides Marvel movies?
Janay Haggins:
I love spending time with my family. I love traveling. I love, like, a lot of movies. Me and my husband, when we have time, we love to look at movies, with the kids, by ourselves, stuff like that.
Joshua Justice:
And you recently traveled, to a place where I have been, I believe. An island.
Janay Haggins:
Yep. Aruba!
Joshua Justice:
That’s where I spent my Honeymoon.
Janay Haggins:
We have that in common. I know. Yes. That’s that’s my place. Me and my husband always say when we retire, that’s where we’re moving to.
Joshua Justice:
Yeah. When you went last summer, I told my wife, Natalie, Janay is going back to Aruba. And she’s like, “when am I going back to Aruba?”
Janay Haggins:
You should take her. It’s, it it’s, it’s a wonderful place.
Joshua Justice:
I feel like we often go to Disney, but I’ve been thinking lately we should we should get back to, you know, a tropical place again, especially when it’s so cold this time of year here in, in Maryland.
Janay Haggins:
One thing I love about Aruba, their weather is the same all year round. Yes. I love it.
Joshua Justice:
Something else we have in common is that, I was raised by, your manager, my my father.
Janay Haggins:
Yes.
Joshua Justice:
Charles Justice, who is our COO. And, I I think I made him cringe. I told him I was gonna have you tell, like, your most, cringe worthy stories in HR here at JustTech, you know, just messing with him. But, how do you like working for Charles?
Janay Haggins:
I actually love it. I love it. To be honest, out of all my years of working, he’s one of the best managers I’ve ever had to be. That’s great. Yeah.
Joshua Justice:
Yep. He’s a big part of this company. We appreciate all he’s done, and he’s built out our HR as we’ve grown and and with bringing you on board, and he’s done an incredible job with it.
Janay Haggins:
Yes. I agree. I agree.
Joshua Justice:
So anything else you would like to to share with us? Anything coming up? Looking forward to anything coming up.
Janay Haggins:
Work wise or personal? Or both.
Joshua Justice:
Either.
Janay Haggins:
Yeah. Let’s see. Personal. So we’re going on a cruise in July, and I’m a little nervous. Okay. So this is this will be our first time on a on a on a cruise. So I’m a little I’m a little on edge.
Joshua Justice:
Yeah. Well, you’ll have to let us know, how it goes. We’ll all be we’ll all be wondering. You said July. Right?
Janay Haggins:
Yeah. Okay. We have the July, so I’m a little nervous. I’m like, ah, should I? Should not? I don’t know. I don’t know. And then I’m trying to plan my grandmother’s eightieth birthday. She’ll be 80 in May. Wow. That’s great. She deserves it. Yeah. She deserves it. So I’m trying to do that. I just have a lot going on.
Joshua Justice:
