End of Basic Authentication Support – Action Required

Microsoft is ending support for Basic Authentication in October 2025, a method commonly used by multifunction printers (MFPs) for the Scan to Email function. Google Workspace already ended support for Basic Auth on May 1, 2025. While Basic Auth still works for free individual Google accounts, this may change soon.

Most MFPs cannot authenticate via OAuth 2.0, the modern and secure replacement method now required by both Microsoft and Google.


Impact on Scan to Email

If your printer uses Basic Authentication to send scanned documents via email, this functionality will stop working unless an alternative is implemented.

1. Scan to Cloud Email App (Free)

A simple, secure replacement for traditional Scan to Email. Works with Xerox ConnectKey-enabled devices.

2. Connect for Exchange Online App (Licensed)

Designed for businesses using Microsoft Exchange Online. Also compatible with Xerox ConnectKey-enabled devices.

Key features:

  • Send scans via your Exchange Online account

  • Access Global Address Book or Personal Contacts

  • Login via Microsoft credentials or scan a QR code using mobile device

  • Supports Single Sign-On (SSO) if enabled
