On March 7, JustTech was proud to once again sponsor Concern Hotline’s Full Contact Ping Pong Fundraiser, held at Escutcheon Brewing Company in Winchester, Virginia. The event brought together community members for an evening of friendly competition, fun, and fundraising in support of an organization that provides life-saving services across the region.

While final totals are still being calculated, last year’s event raised thousands of dollars to support Concern Hotline’s vital programs — and this year’s turnout suggests another strong result.

Concern Hotline operates a free, 24/7, anonymous service providing information and referral assistance, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention support throughout Virginia’s Northern Shenandoah Valley.

A Longstanding Community Resource

Concern Hotline was founded in 1968 after a group of concerned citizens recognized that Winchester had an alarmingly high suicide rate — more than double the national average at the time. Community leaders, including Dr. Kic Kiczales, Patricia and Judge Henry Whiting, and Bettie Johnston, formed a task force to address the issue and create a support system for individuals in crisis.

In April 1970, Concern Hotline began service for the City of Winchester and the counties of Frederick and Clarke. By 1978, the Northwestern Community Services Board had contracted the organization to provide 24-hour crisis intervention services across a wider region, including Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren, Shenandoah, and Page.

Today, Concern Hotline continues to serve as a critical safety net for individuals and families facing difficult moments.
