Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act)
Congress passed and the President signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) which applies to companies with less than 500 employees. This is handled by the Small Business Administration (SBA) in coordination with banks.
The loan may be forgiven if certain costs (payroll, rent and utilities) during the 8 week period equal the original loan amount. Forgiven loan amounts will not be included in the borrower’s taxable income.
